Walking in the Peak District

The Peak District is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with moors and dales, rivers, springs and caverns.

Monsal Dale

Monsal Dale is a wonderful example of calming Derbyshire countryside - a place where you can walk along the river, take in the landscape and sit by a weir and have a picnic. Monsal Head, directly above Monsal Dale, is one of the most famous and photographed viewpoints in Derbyshire.

Kinder Scout

Kinder Scout is a wild place, with remote moorlands, a spectacular waterfall (Kinder Downfall) that often freezes in winter, weird rock formations, bogs you can sink to your waist in, spectacular wildlife and far-reaching views.

Lathkil Dale

Lathkill Dale is one of the prettiest of the Derbyshire Dales and lies about 3 miles from Bakewell. There is a pay and display car park at Over Haddon from where a steep road descends into the dale, or various parking areas at Monyash which is situated at the top end of Lathkill Dale.

Mam Torr

Mam Tor is on the southern edge of the Dark Peak (sandstones) and overlooks the White Peak (limestones), including the notable dry gorge of Winnats Pass. It is a dominating link between the eastern end of Rushup Edge and the western end of the Great Ridge, which together separate the Hope Valley to the south from Edale to the north, and is a popular ridge walk.

Dovedale

Dovedale is known for the River Dove and its impressive limestone ravines, but the most iconic part of a trip to Dovedale has to be the picturesque stepping stones. Arriving at the nearby car park, where you can also be tempted by snacks and refreshments, it’s just a short walk up and across a wooden bridge to get to the River Dove, where you can look up onto Thorpe Cloud.
